To start to understand Inspecs is to look back at where they
have come from. Inspecs was born out of the deregulation in
the market in the late 1980s when they were using top end
designer brands to add value to the spectacles and sunglasses
- brands like Jean Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto and Alain
Mikli. At this stage Inspecs was building a team of people
deliberately taken from different backgrounds - theatre, retail,
marketing, design, PR as well as optics.
To
start with the business was small but high profile within
the industry, but this evidently was not enough for Robin
Totterman, Inspecs founding partner and managing director.
So Inspecs moved into the mid market starting with Kookai,
and then in 1988 picking up the world-wide license for French
Connection. "This brand stepped up our volumes massively
and has given us the momentum to expand our operations and
logistics, and create a real leverage in the supply chain"
says Robin Totterman. Inspecs could now really develop its
global business which led to offices being set up in Hong
Kong, USA, Australia and France. |
